Armenia was elected member of IAEA Board of Governors

At the 61st session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on September 21, Armenia was elected a member of the IAEA Board of Governors. Members of the Board of Governors are 35 of the 169 IAEA members.

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), together with the annual General Conference, is one of two IAEA political structures. It is responsible for the most part of the IAEA policy.

The Board of Governors elaborates and gives recommendations on the IAEA's activities and budget for the General Conference, which is responsible for the publication of IAEA standards, appoint to the office of the IAEA the General  Director presenting it to the approval of the General Conference.

The Republic of Armenia will be managed office the Board of Governors for two years, starting in 2017 September 25.

It should be reminded, that  61st session of the General Conference of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency was being held in Vienna on September 18-22, which is also attended by the Armenian delegation, headed by RA Minister of Energy infrastructures and Natural Resources Ashot Manukyan.
