Ashot Manukyan and French Ambassador discussed possibilities of expanding Armenian-French cooperation in energy sphere

RA Minister of Energy infrastructures and Natural Resources Ashot Manukyan met with French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lockett on January 18. The opportunities of expanding cooperation between the two countries in energy, water economy and mining sectors were discussed. Talking about the Armenian-French economic cooperation, Ashot Manukyan touched upon the implementation of a number of joint projects. Highlighted, that the French government supported the construction of the Vedi reservoir. The role of "Veolia Water" company in the context of introducing new quality and culture in Armenia's water economy management was emphasized. Taking into account the company's great experience, the opportunities for cooperation with the "Veolia Water" are also discussed in the energy sector. This refers to, in particular, the implementation of a garbage recycling project in the Kotayk region.

Speaking about the nuclear energy, Ashot Manukyan highlighted the cooperation especially in the field of nuclear waste management. The minister expressed conviction that the cooperation will continue in the near future.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Jonathan Lockett noted that in the Armenian-French economic relations, priority is given to issues related to energy. A number of French companies are already working in this sphere. In the ambassador's opinion, the interests will be much more activated after adoption of the law on private-public sector cooperation, which many companies are waiting for.

Notifying that the draft law is already ready, the Minister urged not to wait for its adoption.

 

- The government has adopted a concept that has been successfully implemented. The first major project to be implemented within the framework of this project is the "Shnogh" Hydroelectric Power Plant, in which is take part in American "Robins" company,- said Ashot Manukyan.

The second major project is expected to be the participation of the French company "Schneider Electric". Within the framework of public-private partnership, is preparing for the first 10 MW solar station and accumulator construction in Ddmashen territory. The Minister informed that contacts with LG and TESLA companies were started. Issues related to the implementation of the project will also be discussed in the near future with the "Schneider Electric" company.
