On August 28, the RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan has received the delegation headed by Bahman Salehi, the Director of «Sanir» company, general contractor of the Iran-Armenia 400 kV power transmission line.

After the exchanging of welcoming speeches, the Director of «Sanir» company informed, that the first consignment of goods and equipments required for the construction of 400 kV transmission line will be moved to Armenia coming days and noted, that the construction works will be carried out according to schedule.

The Minister Yervand Zakharyan underscored the significance of the program for the two countries' energy systems, and has mentioned, that the program should be implemented with high quality and within the prescribed period.

The Minister also noted, that during the implementation of the program will be provided any assistance to the main contractor, to complete the construction properly.

Note, that there was signed the Treaty on the construction of the Iran-Armenia 400 kV line and the appropriate substation between the «Sanir» and «High Voltage Electric Networks» CJS companies, on August 12.

107.9 million Euros, necessary for the implementation of the project, according to the Financial Agreement signed between the Export Development Bank of Iran and the «High Voltage Electric Networks» company of the RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on August 9, in Tehran, will grant the Iranian side.

The 77 percent of the mentioned amount will provide the Iran's Export Development Bank.

The 23 percent of the amount necessary for the construction will allocate the company «Sanir», project's main contractor. The length of the sector of Iran-Armenia 400 kV aerial dual chain line, being under the construction in Armenia, is about 279 km.

The construction of the Iran-Armenia 400 kW third power transmission line and «Noravan» substation will enable to reach the electricity exchange capacity between the two countries 'energy systems of 350 MW to 1,000 MW and will raise the communication reliability of the southern and central parts of the Armenia's energy system, as well as the reliability of the parallel operation of two countries' energy grids and energy security level of Armenia.

The project also aims to connect the Armenian and Georgian energy systems near the Georgian border by the 500/400/220 kV high-voltage direct current converter station (ultimate capacity of 1050 MW), installed in Ayrum (Armenia).

From the Georgian side the connection will be through the 500 kV line from «Marneuli» substation, and from the Armenian side will be trough the 400 kV line, from Hrazdan.

It is also planned to construct the 400/220 kV substation in Hrazdan region, in order to connect the Armenia-Georgia and Iran-Armenia 400 kV transmission lines.

As a result, the Armenia-Georgia electricity exchange capacity will be increased from the current 200 MW to 700 MW.

The development of the above mentioned infrastructures is directed to the ensuring of the seasonal north-south (Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Iran) exchanges of the energy carriers by the transit transportations through the RA for the regional and interregional integration of the Republic of Armenia.

The construction of the Iran-Armenia 400 kV third power transmission line and the appropriate substation is planned to be completed in 24 months.
