From 29-th of September (in hotel "Armenia Marriott"), with participation of about 250 representatives from 50 countries launched the 6th three-day International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development.

The conference was organized by the RA Government, in the face of RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the UN Regional Commissions, the UN Development Program subdivision in Armenia, United Nations’ Industrial Development Organization and etc.

The RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan and the senior representatives of organizer institutions have speeches in the opening of the Forum.

 

Yervand Zakharyan , welcoming the conference participants , expressed hope that, the Conference will become a practical platform for debates of the topics of mutual interest, for proposals, information sharing, as well as for the summarizing the achievements, for outlining the current challenges and possible solutions.

The Minister also noted in his speech, that Armenia is faithful to the UN Secretary General’s initiative 'Energy for All' and highlights the importance of regional and international cooperation in the sphere.

"We have a great challenge to keep, sustain, as well as to ensure a reliable and secure energy system," said Yervand Zakharyan.

The other speakers of the Conference also highlighted the problems of deepening and expansion of cooperation in the energy system.

The 6th International Forum being held in Yerevan is dedicated to the following problems of the energy system:

- Ensuring of universal access to energy services

- Raising of energy efficiency and doubling of rates

- Increasing of the share of renewable energy in the general energy balance.

There are intended high level discussions during the Conference on creation of the mechanisms of possible cooperation of countries in the field of renewable energy and energy saving.

  The Forum creates ample opportunity for specialists, national experts, international and local financial organizations, for increasing of energy efficiency between the  public and private companies, expanding renewable energy, and for the exchanging  of the issues of experiences on implementing of cleaner energy technologies.

It is envisaged to spend seminars and conferences dedicated to the increasing of energy efficiency in different fields. 

In parallel, will be held in the training courses on planning of the investments in the renewable energy sphere, exchange of the best practices for the energy efficiency and energy savings.

  Note, that in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency the Republic of Armenia has favorable legal framework and legislative regulations, as well as successful experience particularly in the sector of small HPP.

The RA Government's policy in renewable energy sphere is aimed at using of the economically grounded reasonable potentials of renewable resources.

It is expected to adopt a joint declaration on the results of works done and the subsequent operations at the end of the Yerevan Conference.
