Armenia to come up in the role of regional hub in electricity sphere

After construction and exploitation of Iran-Armenia and Armenia-Georgia electricity transmission air lines Armenia will come up in the role of regional hub in the electricity sphere tying the electricity systems of Iran, Georgia and Russia. According to the Government’s action plan for the upcoming five years, the Iran-Armenia and Armenia-Georgia air lines will be exploited by the end of 2019.

 

In the sidelines of the program on construction of Iran-Armenia 400 kilovolt electricity transmission wire which has already launched, it is intended to end the mounting works of pillars and transmission wires in 2017-2018. The construction of the new substation is intended to be finished by that time too. The wires and substation will be exploited in 2019. It will give an opportunity to increase the electricity flows to neighboring Iran three times.

 

By the end of the year the Government plans to start the projecting works of Armenia-Georgia 400 kilovolt air lines. The deadline for the implementation of the program is 2019.

 

Within the framework of the declared international contest the process of selection of contractor organization is ongoing and is envisaged to end in September.
